We went to the 1st open day of the month to view the Council Chambers at the Town Hall today commemorating 80 years of the Battle of the Atlantic.
Well worth the visit, we really enjoyed it and took lots of photos.

I had a message from Fred McCann who organizes the open days. Fred wasn't there today due to the snow. After reading his message we will be going back to listen to his expert knowledge.
Keith Jones With luck, I'll be back there two weeks today. I explain the different battle flags in the council chamber, the story of the Bedford Road Road School clock, and I have either a VHS video of the Queens visit in 1993, or a DVD of the U Boat Wars, running.
I recommend a visit if not for the history of the building.

Looks very interesting and well worth a visit, hopefully after seeing your photos Keith, more will be encouraged to go, I'm sure I remember seeing the marble statue in the past! Thanks for all the photos as I won't get there!

Just spotted this on Facebook and thought a reminder appropriate...
Don't forget that the council chamber of Bootle Town Hall is open to the public tomorrow, (Friday the 24th) between 10-30am and 4-0pm. It's free.

On Keith’s recommendation, I paid a visit to Bootle town halls Battle of the Atlantic exhibition, on Friday last, with my husband Phil. We were lucky enough to meet Fred McCann, who was really enthusiastic and knowledgeable, showing us round and talking about the role of the Royal Navy and Marines during the battle and beyond. This in spite of the fact that we walked in and interrupted his lunch. Like Keith, we took lots of photographs, but unlike Keith, I am far too gormless to post them. The exhibition itself was well worth the visit, Fred’s input made it even better. On our way out, another couple arrived, after a short chat I said I had seen the exhibition recommended on the Bootle Forum. Small world, she said that she was also a member, but it was a while since she had posted. Her name is Sheila, I don’t know her user name beyond that.
Thanks a lot Keith, I am so happy I didn’t miss it.

There has been a guided tour of the Town Hall today. Sadly we were unable to attend.
Something interesting posted by the tour guide, Fred McCann. Wondered if Bob Hammo knew about this.
I've been down in the basement of both Town Halls many times during my twenty odd years working for Sefton. There was talk many years back of returning the basement vault at Bootle to how it was during the Second World War, when Bootle Civil Defence was run from there. Sadly, H&S deemed it to dangerous to allow members of the public down there. Plus the cost of course.
Sounds like it could have been our very own
Western Approaches as what's in Liverpool.
