Hi, i believe there was once a large oak tree situated on Litherland Road. It would have been situated around the Kara Close area. Ive searched for information on this, and ive not found anything outside of this website. Old threads where photos were posted just do not load or they might have been removed. I am researching my family history, and i know they were living there around 1886. They would have been very much part if the Bootle Village community. I am to believe that legend said if the tree was felled then Bootle would fall also. And i am to believe the Council removed the tree, reasons were to widen the road, yet it seems newer property is now on the site. I did message one person who wrote about the tree on here months ago, but i never got a reply. If anyone can tell me more about this tree, the legend or myth that it was, im very interested to know more. Thanks.

This is correct Bobhamo. I do not have this document, thank you for sharing. The information matches other information i have on him. I was researching before, and i have part of a Kellys List from 1909 listed in a book ‘Edwardian A-Z & Directory of Liverpool and Bootle’, and it lists 38 Litherland Road (where William was born) as ‘L Cutts Hairdresser’, so the family must have lived above this shop. I was wondering if there might be any pictures of this hairdressers, so ive been searching, i havent found anything yet.

Hi Bob, this is very interesting, what a fab find - Thank you! I knew Richard was a Ships Rigger, but i also knew the census tells us that he and his family were living at an address in Marsh Lane in 1891. Your Kellys list for the same address lists a Pork Butchers at the same address as Richards census, but coincidently the shop is listed as ‘Williams Richard Pork Butcher’… what an amazing turn? I absolutely love it when little snippets of information like this come to light, as it can only mean that Richard & family where living with a relative (and im not sure there is with that name), or Richard was also running the butcher business alongside his rigging work, as i find it very unlikely that he would lodge in the premises belonging to someone not related with the same name?
A smashing find Bob, thank you so much once again

Thank you for the Balfour Road picture Bob, much appreciated, its nice to get something better than a google street view image
And photos you have would be very much appreciated. William died two months before his son (my Grandfather) was born in 1921. There was very much mystery around William, as his widow remarried to a harsh man (allegedly), so not a lot about William was passed down through the family.
I am just trying to find out as much as i can about my Great Grandfather who died suddenly at just 34.
William was also a Freemason in the Mariners Lodge in Liverpool, he had passed all three stages in their initiation, and he was a fully paid up member when he died. There is not a lot more information available on this, Ancestry gave me what i know, and a link to Liverpool Museum told me documents were there, but when i went there, the documents did not relate to William, but another member.
We do know he was the proprietor of The Lancashire Motor Panel Company, as on a previous post my Dad asked about that, and one of the members on here supplied us with a picture, which was amazing. We still do not have any pictures of William, but i appreciate anything i can find about William or his family, as slowly i am starting to piece together bits of their history.
