Argos Road 1922, love this pic, have it in my collection, my mother lived there from 1918-1939...Childrens Day Parade set off from Bankhall Mission, heading towards Miranda Road..have tried to find out where Bankhall mission was before it went to Eliot Street Bootle..

Just curious, Bankhall Mission, was it for males only? It is called Children's Day Parade, however the majority of kids walking in the parade are young boys. I see some lovely little girls all dressed up in there finery but they do not appear to be in the parade???

Great stuff Joe especially for me anyway, the photo's of the New Strand and Breeze Hill
I was away in South East Asia when all those alterations took place so never really
got to see any of the new developments just letters telling me what was going on.
Thanks again Joe

See what you mean about the photo of the Bankhall Mission parade.
Can't answer your question other than to say it was certainly open to both sexes in the late 60's when we used to geg in on the Sunday School kids club thing they had there.

Joe, this is going to sound strange, I cannot place Canal Street, however looking at this old picture in some way made me feel quite sad. I can almost see families living there, children playing in the street and women on doorsteps chatting to each other and just enjoying life. Everyone knowing everyone's business and all good neighbours together. As Henry said, no money but such good times, How sad that no longer exists. I was born and raised in Bianca Street, Bootle and while the houses did not look the same as Canal Street, I imagine life was the same!. When was Canal Street demolished what, if anything was built in it's place? Thanks for these great pictures.
