Hello folks this is my first attempt to connect to Bootle memories.
Does anyone have any info onTHE Junior Cup that was played in May 1961.
St Joan's won.
I'm trying to collect memorabilia for a friend who was in the team.?

Welcome to the site, Sandy, this the cup you're probably asking about. Eddy Lloyd still pops in now and again, he'll be able to give you more info.

If not, Bob B or Bob Hamo will be along shortly to help you. You could also scroll throught the JOC football thread.. 😀

Afternoon Sandy, I'll keep checking but on first skim I've only got the 1960 team.

If there's anything on the 1961 team I'll find it, but it may take a couple of days. (Don't like going out in the rain any more :) )

I don't think I'm going to find a picture of the 1961 team, as there was a snippet of the report at the side of the Bootle JOC report

from May 5 1961. Roy Vernon presented the team with the cup. (See below).

It looks like Princess Royal, as league winners, got the main picture.

St Joan's finished runners-up in the league.

I'll get the full report on my next visit to Crosby.

Well it wasn't raining this morning, so I went to the library. :)

No photo of the team in the 1961 Bootle Times but the names are given at the end of the article.

I went through every issue of the 1961 Times this morning. I'll be posting some of it on the relevant threads.

Didn't see anything on judo- there was hardly any photos on the sports pages.

I'm assuming the club wasn't in Auntie Margaret's Corner. :)

Next time I'll check 1960-very,very slowly. :)

1961 was fairly hard work, I think the Times was printed on blotting paper for that year. The copy is horrendous.

Looked at a couple of months from 1962 - heaven! I could actually read the print.

Sandy, I think this is a photo of the team Paul was in.

It's from The St Joan of Arc Parish facebook page.

Thankyou so much.
I'm not good at getting to the relevant pages. I only saw this 5 minutes ago or I would have texted sooner.
He,ll be chuffed to bits when I show him this photo.
If I remember how to get to the page.
Again thankyou.

I had a letter printed on Aunty Margaret's page about a book I was thinking of writing all about dogs, she suggested I called it Tales about Tails! which many years later I did write and that was the title!

Dan, I can hardly recall what I did last week!  I think it was from about 53 onwards? I would be 7 in 1953 so possibly later. Mum kept the cutting but I couldn't find it. Maybe she lost it when she moved into sheltered accommodation. Sorry! Actually I think the name Loretta would stand out those days!

Alas no Keith! typed it out on the very old type computer and took it to a shop who printed it out for me, A4 size! Needed to be 'sorted' into book form, chapters and all that! I must say that it was mainly about my dogs and followed by the dogs belonging to family and friends, all their walks, adventures, naughty goings on etc.!! A couple of new members have come along who need to be added now!!! :D ps Glad you didn't fancy a dip in the canal!!!

Monument to William Ewart Gladstone unveiled by Birkenhead MP Frank Field at noon on Saturday February 25 2013.

The monument stands in the grounds of Our Lady, Star Of The Sea Church, facing the site of St Thomas’ Church, Seaforth, which was built by Gladstone’s father John and demolished in 1980.
