Park St Barracks

Digging through my old photos and this turned up.

At least I now know when I was with the 40th RTR.

The signatures might be a bit difficult to see but on the original I could tell they were Captain McVey. Captain Toby. Captain Copeland.

Still, its'only 60 years ago.???????????

in the photo of Park St is"nt that the sweet shop we called Grays opposite there was a Chemist .

I remember the Barracks i use to play, hiding behind the trucks, i was terrified theyed catch me!

hi gail, that shop in now called tommys, there are no shops opposite anymore just a block of flats, did you live in park st,

Who remembers the jam works next door to the barracks? We used to collect jam jars and take them to the 'jammy' for cash. But they would only accept those with MF on the bottom. Ministry of Food (I think).
My wife, Mavis Dean, lived next door at 93.

Diyman, I was born in the prefabs in Back Garden Lane, so i know Park St & the Streets around.Then i went to live with my Grandmother in Rufford Rd,i was 5yrs old, but my Gran used to run Costigans at the top of Park St / Stanely Rd,

I now live in Spain.

cousin Billy Maher back row I think Bill would be age about
78/ 80. now....? lives in the south of England.

That's great Vera. It's like scoring a goal when someone is recognised from almost sixty years ago. Billy was one of the stars, very fast and scored loads of goals. I am sure he will be delighted to see the photo from so long ago. It really brings things home when you say how old he might be already. I just remember him as he was on the photo.

Franks post was also great. So we might have been quite close then and all this time later we are together again. Amazing.

Arthur was an amazing man. His leg was deformed through polio and he could only qualify for cadet service. He went all the way up to Captain - and well deserved too.
