Hope Matt, can see this old photo.
The building that is painted brown was the doctors surgery doctor Jones and Dr Weatherhead, then later doctor Davies.
On, on the left of shop next to Hooton Place was Blackledges bread and cake shop on the corner of Chestnut Grove and Marsh Lane, you can see a glimpse of St James senior girls school.

Thanks for the photo Joe.I only ever met Dr Jones a few times. My uncle Dr John Wethered was originally a surgeon at Walton hospital but I guess the second world War caught up with him and he just could not handle the sight of lots of blood so he became a GP after serving in the RAMC in India during WW2.
Little story....When he became the junior partner of Dr Jones an elderly man came into the surgery and asked my uncle John if he was related to Jack Wethered the wool clipper captain.Uncle John said yes ,he was my grandfather(my great grandfather)With that answer the old feller stormed out of the room and told my uncle that no son of a b....h relation of Black Jack Wethered would ever lay a hand on him.Seems he was quite a hard captain to sail with and in fact once his whole crew jumped ship in Australia .
Thanks again Joe.
Matt

Worn lino on the floor, wooden benches around the walls - you walked in, eyeballed the folks there before you, and waited your turn. Every whisper said in the surgery could be heard in the waiting room - no secrets. In to see Dr Wethered and there was a small gas fire hissing away competing with Dr Wethered's laboured breathing. No nonsense - if you were being silly, you got shouted at. Primitive conditions but devoted care, no refusal for a home visit and you didn't have to arm wrestle the receptionist (there wasn't one) to get in. Not sure things have improved all that much in 70 years.
It's a long time since I saw that surgery. Nice to see the old place again and thanks for putting it up.

Coal sidings on marsh lane, it looks like the girl from the other photo, outside the doctor’s surgery.

I found this picture of a Commer lorry in Sandhills Lane on the TrucknetUK Forum.
I expect it is from the 1960s or early 1970s. I still have not sussed out how to send pictures
in a decent size.
Ray.

Great photo Ray. Unfortunately it's not Bootle, it's Sandhills Lane, Liverpool, L5 9XN.

What a great picture Joe. The lorry on the right looks like a Bedford, the cream lorry near the tram is a Ford Thames.fatboyjoe90 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 07, 2022 12:29 am Not Bootle, but not that far away. James Street Liverpool 1955.
The Corporation tram is on route 40 to Page Moss. The two cars near the tram are Ford 100E Anglia or Prefect.
The black car on the left is a Rover, and the Corporation bus is an AEC from the late 1940s. Cheers, Ray.
