Brookhill Rovers 1952/3/4
Brookhill FC 1952/53 from bill thompson, anyone remember this team it was managed by bill watkinson and trained by joe thompson, my dadi can recall some of the lads that played for them there was willie critchlowe from dorset st., about three of the jones boys from waterworks st.,roy, maurice, and another brother, whos, name i cant recall, roy was leading goal scorer in all divisions of the bootle j.o.c, the team won every thing, there was no one to touch them they would all meet in waterworks st., on a saturday, and they were taken to the game on the back of charlie gavins coal wagon, me and a few other lads included.. happy days ... regards bill tomo...
I was talking to Roy Jones this week (hes 80 this year), and I was telling him about this site and he started telling me about his wedding day. the reception was held in his mothers house and he had arranged for some one to bring his footie kit and boots and hide them some where,( brookhill Rovers was playing the British Enka that day.) when the party was in full swing he sneaked out and went to play in the match, he scored eight goals.
He was telling me about his brother Maurice who turned professional and played for Port Vale, Swindon Town and Celtic. not all at the same time
Roy said if Maurice wasn't playing and he was at home he would play for the Brookhill Rovers, which was against the rules but he would do anything for a game of footie.but you could see how much better he was than all of the rest.

Final Tables Season 1954/55
The British Enka game may have been a Shield match. I can't find any record of British Enka in the JOC around this time.
Brookhill disbanded for the1955/56 season. See below.
Bootle Times August 26 1955 . Season preview for the 1955/56 season.
I've got very few cuttings for the 1950s, which I'm hoping to remedy when all the covid business is out of the way.
Here's hoping. One consolation, the NHS sent me a letter saying I'm extremely valuable. Nice of them.

1956/57 St Elizabeth's team posted by Bob Hamo, September 19 2012.
Terry Halpin , Billy Linskey , Ted Swift , Lal Evans, John Brennan ,Pat McDowall , Eddie Connolly
I've copied Bob's attribution from the Johnnie Roberts thread.
The player being held aloft is John Roberts, who was the season's leading goal-scorer with 137 goals.
During the season St Elizabeth's scored 214 goals in 22 games in the JOC Division 4 (Under 20)..

For sale on e-bay £14.99. 1956 Bootle JOC Division 1 Trophy.
It was won by either 1955/56 Champions Benson's , or 1956/57 Champions Salisbury Athletic.
Seller's comments.
An interesting Football Trophy with an enamel badge or similar saying Bootle JOC Football League to the cup part and a smaller plaque reading Div 1 Champs 1956 to the base.
The overall height measurement is 14cm and to the lower reverse side edge it reads EPNS Made in England. I had wondered if the badge part was just stuck on but it must have been made especially for the trophy which is rounded and the badge part is snug with the surface etc and was professionally produced.
Would make a nice addition to any Non League Football collection and I think this would probably have player links etc to well known local teams Everton and Liverpool FC whilst Bootle themselves are still in existence and play in the North West Counties League.
As shown there is general tarnish, most of this would polish off but obviously it is up to you, otherwise very good condition.

See Rockfield v Atlanta report from January 26 1968, below.
March 8 1968. K. Edwards scored the only goal in the game against Blessed Sacrament.
So right Dan, My first name is William, W. K.

Some of the teams had some bad results
1967 William Ross conseeded 134 goals in 26 games
the team was almost office workers and a few footballers
one was me
the joc was a hard league and it was tough for the office workers
the times on orrell pleasure when some games 10 nil and more
where common practice but over the season the team got better
and after a couple of seasons the name change to linacre united
ended in to a good team
thanks Dan
Ken 5 goals in a game well done

Lots of memories Bob, some good lads and good players.
That last division 3 results brings back good and bad memories,
I scored 4 against FPD
I got sent off for fighting with Billy Knowles of Borthwicks.
I played a few games for Warbreck.
Seems like yesterday, not sure I could even stand the cold now, never mind the knees.
