St Mary's Old Boys featured in the Crosby Herald dated 22/8/1975.
Top left is Paul Clarke who was a prominent City Councillor Back row far right is Tony Brookman, my class teacher from the Salesian College, next to him is Bob Johnson, played for Liverpool reserves and I think the led next to him is John Lawler, who i also went to school with and centre front rwo is Dereck Johnson another old Salesian. 101
the lad in front row with the ball 2nd from right is ged mears from fernhill rd , one of the best players i saw from bootle , he played for england under 18 , st monicas and salesian boy , sadly passed away last year

Gerry Mears- England Schoolboy International.
Would probably have been the all sky blue kit.
June 1971- The rule was hair shouldn't touch the collar or be over the ears- and sideburns were like walking a tightrope.

Well where was this and could you name school next to it before a government building was built :D :D

the picture reminded me that whenever the Salesian pitches were heavy, Mr. Brookman would send us to play our school house games on Orrell Pleasure.
The drainage at the Dunningsbridge end of Savio was rubbish. The land was the site of what we used to call the jungle. Before it was developed,it was an overgown, boggy mess

My grandson Calum Cureton representing Sefton under 15 football team, just beat Sunderland in the semi final of the all England District Cup. They beat Manchester in the quarter finals both games away from home. A total of 88 teams entered. Don't know when they will play the final but it may be at Old Trafford.
Nice article and pic in Friday's Liverpool Echo
