It's obviously my age, but I'm struggling with the orientation of this fascinating photo...…..now if somebody would identify the bridges over canal in the bottom right hand corner & the one above also, then I'm sure "my little grey cells" (acknowledgements to Hercule Poirot here) will be able to process the rest.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks Filsgreen & Bob...…….that was a "Light Bulb" moment for me...…..gotcha.
The next thing puzzling me is the bridge over Hawthorne Road......is that running adjacent to Aintree Rd ?......I never knew such a bridge existed.
Cheers.....superb photo.

I was at Balliol Road School from 1945 to 1948 when someone made a mistake and gave me a pass on my exam paper enabling me to move to Bootle Tech.
Games half day at Balliol consisted of Mr Battersby marching us down Southport Road to the schools playing fields. I always envied the talented lads picked for the Bootle Boys team who played their home matches there.
Are those beautiful grass pitches still there or is it now a housing estate?

Thanks Bob.
I doubted they would still be there so I am pleasantly relieved to read your message. Those were happy days for children with no idea, and not even caring, what life was to bring.
