Was in the Strand yesterday afternoon.

Took these photos in the downstairs area. Only the bit by the Hexagon is a going concern now.

The place is dying, Bob, they should knock it down. Amazon, Asda and Tesco have killed the small to medium shops in Bootle, in much the same way The Strand killed Strand Road, Stanley Road shopping.

Things change. I was looking at some pictures of Liverpool city centre from 1975. The roads were quieter than today's Sunday traffic.

Below is a BBC travel chart. The mid-point would be 1984.

I sense a kindred spirit inexorably torn between the forces of ennui and schadenfreude.

Time to open the beer. :D

Cheers Tim. Cheers Simon.

The ownership of The Strand is something of a sorry tale.

In 2014, Elandi and Avenue Capital acquired The Strand for, what was then, an undisclosed sum.

On May 5 2017, Osborne Clarke issued a press release announcing the sale of The Strand to Sefton Council.

The statement disclosed the figure paid, in 2014, as £26.5 million.

In 2017, the price paid by the Council for the property was £32.5 million.

It's unsure whether the price included the £684,276 the Council paid (up to end August 2017) to service companies who advised on the deal.

Sefton Council bought The Strand through a company registered in Luxembourg.

Last week on Place North West site, the valuation of The Strand was given as £14.24 million.

Osborne Clarke's press release, the Place North West and Liverpool Echo articles are below.
