Awwww Bob, lovely picture....I prefer the "then" rather than the now! Do you know who the little boy is? There is a man talking to a woman outside a house behind the little boy, I bet it is the local priest, don't ask me why I say that as I have no idea!

There was a photo published in the old Bootle Herald on 29 August 1969 showing the families from Recreation Street ready for their Centenary outing on the previous Sunday. Please does anybody know if it is possible to still get a copy of the photo?

Great photographs everyone, liking the overhead railway, reminded me of the time, my brother and his mates took me with them for a ride on the overhead train,
I was only four and thought it would be wonderful, but not so, the dockers umbrella turned out to be rickety, smokey, and dirty, but so glad I got to have a go, I never got the chance again!
The photos of Millers Bridge and Canal Street brilliant, Shire horses lovely, and the little boy on the toy horse, how cute is he!
All such wonderful history, thank you

Bob, regarding the houses at the top of Canal St,( between the Clarence and Millers Bridge) did you know anyone who lived in them and did you ever go in any of them, if so can you remember how big they must have been at the rear because the backyard was actually on the same level as Berry St. Also in the pic of the old pub at the bottom of the steps you will notice something quite common on bridges and passageways from that time, because of the amount of muggings and rollings that took place, they had to round off the corners so as no one was able to conceal themselves in order to carry out the assault on the unsuspecting person, (quite often seamen) love all of the old photos, keep them coming. John if you look at the old picture before they were knocked down they had grating stairwells so they had cellars.
l only went into one house if my memory is correct they had stairs outside at the back down to street level.
Does anyone remember the crash at the top end of Berry street by the steps into a house.
John very interesting stuff on the steps mate on berry street

Thanks for that Ricky... thought it might have been the coronation, but had doubts because the boys all looked so dapper in their immaculate white shirts and braces...
All the children looked so well turned out and happy, and such a clear photograph..lovely!!
thanks again, much appreciated

Frank, hindsight is a wonderful thing, if only we had known what the future would be, we’d all be rich men and women now.
Cheers Joe.
