Because of my transport connections, the picture of Vauxhall Road that Joe posted last Monday
is most interesting The Austin lorry with a Bootle registration number, looks like EM 4115...
the horse and cart in the distance... but I cant understand why the drawbar trailer looks to be
abandoned on the tramlines. The chap appears to be riding what we used to call an Autocycle,
where you had to set off by pedalling like a bike until the little 2 stroke engine fired up, and off
it went. Thank you to Invicta for your comments. Regards, Ray Smyth.

Can anybody confirm that this photo is Menai Street?
I found it on Flicker and it was dated 2014.
It looks like the houses are about to be demolished?
My grandparents lived at 32 which would have been the other side of the road, but it was bombed down in the May blitze.
There is more photos of that area also, if anyone is interested I will post the link.

Menai Street was between Boundary Street and Athol Street , it backed onto the railway. I believe it's where St Albans Court is now? Thanks for that Kenny, but thinking about it probably is Menai Road?

Hi Chaps, The diesel locomotive in Joes picture of Orrell Park Station is an "English Electric" Class 40,fatboyjoe90 wrote:Photo’s of Orrell Park Station with a train to Liverpool in the first photo.
one of about 200 built from 1958, and were seen throughout most parts of the UK.
The "Deltic" diesels, of which there were only 22 of them, belonged to the Eastern Region of British Railways
and were mainly used on the East Coast Main Line between London, Kings Cross and Edinburgh.
The prototype Deltic locomotive which was also built by English Electric. Many of its component parts came
from English Electric factories here in the North West, the English Electric factory on the East Lancashire Road,
the English Electric factory at Strand Road, Preston, and I believe the prototype was assembled at the Locomotive
factory of English Electric/Vulcan foundry at Newton Le Willows, near Haydock.

Bob, That's a strange piece of kit on the back of the Bedford lorry. The lower part looks like the forwardBOBHAMO wrote:

end of a canal barge, and the upper part is a sort of JCB front digger, with a decent sized cab. Perhaps
it was used for dredging the canal. The partial company name on the Bedford cab door, and the
Bootle Barge Co have the same address...101 Merton Road. Thank you for the picture Bob.
Regards, Ray.

Rice Lane, and Walton library on the left 1929.
Were that petrol station is, I'm sure it became the Walton Labour Club, later on, Eric Heffers name was always on it.

Thanks for the photo of Rice Lane, Joe, I lived in Cedardale Road in the early 80s. I wonder what was behind the hoardings on the left after the library? It was just open ground when I was there.
Walton library is now Merseycare's Life Rooms, a place where people can go if they are unemployed, need help with life's problems, or just for a cuppa and company. They also have them at Southport and Bootle.
