Found this on the site posted from June

League folds after 46 years.

After a special General Meeting held on Wednesday 21st May 2014 it was unanimously passed by the three eligible teams and the Crosby League committee that, sadly, the Crosby and District Sunday Football League be dissolved with immediate effect after a 46 year history.

Brian Metcalfe, who has been secretary of the league for the past 26 years, says "It is a very, very sad day for the league and for me personally. There is no one reason for the decline of the league, but in my opinion some of the main reasons are:

The cost to teams to hire a pitch at Buckley Hill (approx £800), plus league and LCFA fees on top.
Players wanting to watch games on Sunday afternoons involving Liverpool FC and Everton FC (especially next season with both Champions League and Europa Cup Cup games being played on Sundays as well as live televised premier league games.
Pubs and clubs shutting down, so teams find it hard to get sponsorship.
Teams opting for 5-a-side instead, as everyone will get a game and it can also work out a lot cheaper and it is indoors especially in the cold winter months.
Lack of experienced referees was also a factor as the League were down to five referees I could call on every week, and one or two of them were thinking of retiring.
No new teams have applied for next season and we would have needed at least 10 new teams to start a division off, as this season 6 teams resigned without paying their fees and once teams get knocked out of cup competitions, they lose interest and resign".

The league started life in 1967 as the Formby, Crosby and District Sunday League and was eventually shortened to the Crosby and District Sunday Football League which was started off by the late Don Williams with the help of Tommy Martin. At one stage there were five divisions and a youth division. Some of the most famous and successful teams of the past include founder members Salt Box (Catherine F.C. who donated the Lal Evans Memorial Trophy), Eden Vale, Park Villa, Wheatsheaf, Allendale, Merton Villa, Howard Sports, Alpha, Valentine, Lion Hotel and many more. The league had a lots of success in the Liverpool County FA competitions which included Lion Knowsley (1992) Eden Vale (1998), Freehouse (2000) and Seaburn (2005) winning the Sunday Premier Cup. In the LCFA Junior Cup they had success with Eden Vale (1974), S.A.W. (1980), Cabbage (1984) and Fitness Connection (1998). In the LCFA Intermediate Cup, Toms Tavern won in 1996, with Daniel winning in 1998 and to bring things up to date, The YBM won this trophy this season to bring a fitting end to the Crosby League success story.

Secretary Brian Metcalfe recollects his memories. "I started in the Crosby League in 1974 when myself and Alan Donoghue brought Fairfax FC from the ninth division of the Liverpool Sunday League to the Crosby League and our proudest moment was when we won the Cannon Francis Cup in 1977 against the mighty Eden Vale at Marine FC's ground. I carried on as secretary of Fairfax under different names until I took over from the late Don Williams as secretary of the league in 1988. I also took on the role of Managing Agent for South Sefton pitches for Sefton Council which I still hold for now. It has been an honor and privilege to be part of this great league and I am very sorry to witness the decline of the league over the last few years. It's been hard work sometimes but rewarding especially when you see Crosby sides winning major honours. I would like to thank everybody that has been involved with the league in the past especially the likes of Charlie Harms, Derek Morgan, Martin Davies and Paul
Widdowson and all referees, young and old, that could tell so many stories of their experiences. Thank you to all teams that have played in the league over the past 46 years, especially to Saltbox, who have "seen it out" right up to the end.

In conclusion, I think it fitting the the YBM have won all four trophies that they went in for to become the first team to do this in our last season.
